about

I am Michael Mitsas, a self-taught artist based in Melbourne who works across a diverse range of mediums. I believe that creativity is not only a privilege for a minority but is a natural state that everyone has the aptitude to access. I have created my own personal language influenced predominantly by primitive art and abstract expressionism. In my work, I use vibrant colors, abstraction, mythology, and symbolism to project a narrative of my inner world and to personify the playful and instinctual side of creating that I feel everyone has the ability to connect to.

Art has the power to connect us with the deeper aspects of ourselves and the world around us. I strive to create work that evokes this connection in the viewer. Nature, with its ever-changing forms and colors, serves as a constant source of inspiration for me. I often incorporate natural imagery and motifs in my work, using bold colors and textures to evoke the energy and movement found in the natural world.

My paintings also explore the complexities of the human mind, drawing upon themes of psychology and the inner self. I believe that art can serve as a mirror, reflecting the deepest aspects of ourselves and allowing us to gain insight into our own thoughts and emotions. I strive to bring together the inner and external worlds in my work, using bold, expressive brushstrokes and a vibrant color palette to create pieces that are both dynamic and contemplative. My goal is to create work that encourages the viewer to look deeper and consider the interconnectedness of all things.

I believe that everyone is a creator in their own right, and that by tapping into this, we can access a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. My hope is that my art serves as a reflection of this journey and inspires others to explore their own inner worlds.
